We just said goodbye to the last of our holiday guests and started taking down the Christmas decorations. The final sign that the parties are over and it’s time to get back to business.
It’s been a generally great year for Alte Frau, New Life. I started the year with around 40 subscribers and we’re now up to 266!
So, ‘hello’ all you new readers! Thanks for signing up. And a big ‘thank you’ to Chery at
for recommending me! A lot of you found me through her.If you have a minute to drop me a line, please check out my updated 2025 Reader Survey and let me know what kinds of articles and topics you’d like to see here in 2025. I have lots of ideas, but suggestions are also welcome.
What you liked in 2024
These were my Top 3 articles by view and email open rate from last year:
I don’t think of myself as a political or current events blogger, but judging from the response, I might change my mind.
However, I also noticed that a good chuck of my archive was mistakenly paywalled and listed as ‘for paid subscribers’ even though I don’t offer paid subscriptions. Oops!
So, if you clicked on a link to an older article and couldn’t read it, that glitch is fixed now. Everything is free to read.
Some tweaks for 2025
I made some small layout changes to the website that I hope will make it easier to navigate and find different topics of interest.
The latest article is highlighted at the top of the page. And I still have sections that feature articles in the main categories, “Life in Berlin” and “Move to Germany.”
I added two standalone pages for my Travel articles (“Places We’ve Been”) and for posts about German or European history (“On German History”), because history is a particular interest of mine.
If you are new in Berlin, I also added a sidebar section with my favorite resources for getting settled and finding things to do in the city.
My goals for this year are to make better use of my Instagram account to post short updates, events and experiences—and to feature more in-depth features in the newsletter, including interviews and collaborations with other Berlin writers and creators.
Thanks to everyone who has read this newsletter this year and the previous three years. I wish you all a peaceful and prosperous 2025!
